New Businesses & Major Expansions in Missouri's Cape Girardeau Area

Cape Girardeau considered for new 500 person call center

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -
Cape Girardeau may be in the running for 500 new jobs.
An international call center is considering the Cape Girardeau area as a possible location for a new 500-person operation. According to Cape Girardeau Area Magnet, the business is researching the availability of a suitable labor force, a critical factor in the location decision.

Company officials have toured Cape Girardeau and met with local human resource professionals.
The identity of the company is currently being held as confidential until a final decision has been made.
As part of this organization's evaluation, Cape Girardeau residents are being asked to complete a brief survey expressing their interest in this type of work.

Potential positions could include customer service representatives, technical support representatives, sales support representatives and desktop support. The survey can be found online. Officials say the information collected will be kept confidential and seen only by the employer. Interested job seekers may also take part in a career fair to be held at the Osage Centre, Thursday, October 20 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.. The potential new area employer will be joined by more than 20 additional employers from the community. The job fair is free and open to the public.

This effort to develop new employment opportunities for the Cape Girardeau region is being led by Cape Girardeau Area MAGNET, the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce, with support from Southeast Missouri State University, the Workforce Investment Board, Missouri Career Center, City of Cape Girardeau, and the Jackson Chamber of Commerce. Officials say several private companies have also met with the company to provide insight to the labor force.

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -
Gov. Jay Nixon was in Jackson on Thursday to announce 50 new jobs due to an expansion at a manufacturing plant.

The Governor toured Nordenia USA's facility in Jackson today before making the announcement, where he was joined by company and community leaders.

"The new investment and significant job creation by this global company is good news for economy of southeast Missouri and our entire state," Gov. Nixon said. "We will continue to fight every single day, for every single job, to move our economy forward. Nordenia USA's creation of 50 new jobs is a significant step for our state's manufacturing sector and economy in general."

Because of the current and anticipated demand for its product, Nordenia USA is embarking on a dual expansion of its Jackson operations. The company will be constructing a new 180,000-square-foot facility in the city's industrial park that will support the manufacturing and warehousing of all bag products.

In addition, Nordenia will be adding another 21,000 square feet of space to its existing facility that houses converting lines. Together, the expansion will create 50 new jobs with a capital investment of $2 million into the local economy.
